Dr. Baltej Parhar (D.C., B.Sc.)
Chiropractor
Dr. Baltej Parhar was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. He was always very active growing up, playing community basketball and soccer for many years. He also joined a competitive bhangra dance team and performed professionally for 10 years. After completing high school, he attended the University of Calgary to study biology. He always wanted to pursue a career in health care, but it was after volunteering with stroke patients at the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI) that his passion for helping people through physical therapy was solidified. At ARBI, he worked alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists to help stroke patients regain their strength and get back to doing their daily activities through exercise and manual therapy. So, he decided to move to Toronto, Ontario to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and pursue a career as a chiropractor. His clinical internships included a placement on the campus clinic mainly treating students, athletes and people living in the surrounding suburban area, and then a second placement at a busy downtown clinic treating people of low socioeconomic status and chronic conditions. The internship provided Dr. Parhar with a wide variety of clinical experiences (such as sports injuries, disc herniations, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, arthritis, and more) and with patients from all walks of life and all kinds of backgrounds. After graduating with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree, Dr. Parhar came back to his hometown to share his passion for healthy living and help everyone he can to achieve their optimal health. What attracted him to the chiropractic profession was the concept of providing health care without resorting to medications or invasive surgeries. He believes that anyone can achieve a healthy state of being through a nutritious diet, regular exercise and good lifestyle habits. In clinic, he uses a combination of education, lifestyle advice, joint manipulation, soft tissue therapy, exercise prescription, laser therapy, electrical modalities, and self-management techniques to help his patients achieve their goals. His certifications include CPR and first aid, mental health first aid, and SMART tools instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy. His goal as a healthcare practitioner is to find the root cause of the issue with his patients, not to simply mask their pain. He joined Flexology Wellness because of the opportunity to collaborate with other health care professions, promote evidence-based treatments, use the most cutting-edge technology, educate people through workshops and classes, participate in clinical research, and getting his patients better by giving them access to a world class rehabilitation facility where they can take care of themselves, rather than becoming dependent on him to fix them. Dr. Parhar is also bilingual and is comfortable speaking to patients in Punjabi.
